Introduction

Here on this website, we will talk about Dwarfism. We will tell you what its causes are and the problems that Dwarf's encounter.

Part 1, Causes of Dwarfism

Dwarfism is a growth rate impediment that causes the affected person to have a shorter height than normal. It can have many causes, the most commun ones being the hypophyseal dwarfism, which is a lack of growth hormones, and the anchondroplasic dwarfism, an alteration of the bone cartilages that prevents the growth of long bones. In addition, certain illnesses can induce dwarfism, such as badly cured diabetes, metabolical disorders, alimentary defiencies, processes that disturb the normal nutrition and oxygenation of cells.

Part 2, Problems related to dwarfism

Dwarf's encounter many problems because of their shorter height. First of all, many of them get teased for being short. They are often being laughed at, or being subjected to rude jokes and pranks by their peers. Sometimes, dwarf's even get bullied around by other, regular sized peoples.
Dwarf's also have other disadvantages. Some of them are less athletic, and others may suffer from obesity or mental difficulties. There is also a very rare illness among dwarf's called Progeria. It causes a growth rate impediment(thus making the affected person a dwarf) and an early ageing. Children suffering from Progeria have the physology of an old man(or women) and never live more then 25 years old( considering they are aged 70 years in only 20 years.

Part 3, Advantages of dwarfism

Althrough many dwarf's get disadvantages from their situation, a good number of them, namely the Achondroplasic kind, get a few advantages out of it. Achondroplasic dwarf's suffer from an alteration of the bone cartilages(as mentionned in the first section). However, they have a complete and rather sturdy musculation, which allows them to perform as well ( and sometimes better) than normal people. Achondroplasic dwarf,s are sometimes very agile, which makes them great acrobats and good runners.

Part 4, What is being done to help dwarf's

A big number of dwarf's are inconvenienced by their situation, especialy those suffering from illnesses to which their dwarfism relates. Some medecin can counteract certain types of dwarfism, but most of them are unefficient. Those that work must be applied durring childhood and adolescence, while the body is still growing. After that, no medecin can augment size.
But another way to help dwarf's is to respect them. We don't need to laugh at them because they are different, it's completely useless. In fact, they are pretty much the same as normal people, only shorter. So we should treat them like we would treat anybody else.
